Domaine des Entrefaux Crozes Hermitage 2013

Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

I had the Domaine des Entrefaux Crozes Hermitage 2013 at Pasquale Jones for dinner and was so enamored by it, that I felt it needed its own separate review. This beautifully spicy, herbaceous wine comes from the Northern Rhone Valley in France.  Produced by the Tardy family, who have been growing grapes for generations and own some of the best vineyard sites in the region. Domaine des Entrefaux has been implementing organic farming practices since 2012.  Charles and Francois Tardy plant 21 hectares of syrah on terraced vineyards of pebbly limestone, on the site Les Chassis.  This parcel of land is considered to be amongst the best for growing beautiful elegant syrahs.img_20160411_010158.jpgimg_20160411_010158.jpg

The wine is hand harvested, destemmed, then fermented with native yeasts and aged for one year.  The wine is made with 100% syrah grapes.  Medium to full bodied, the wine has deep purple hues and an explosive flavor profile.  There are notes of blackberry, raspberry, cassis, and  blackcurrant on the palate.  There is a prominent presence of white pepper that is so wonderfully typical of syrahs from the Northern Rhone.  This syrah is elegant, velvety in texture and the fruits are integrated perfectly with the acidity and tannins.  This wine will drink nicely for 5 to 7 years.  It pairs well with steaks, lambs, hearty mushroom dishes, and rich hearty pastas.

At approximately $25 a bottle, you get a lot of bang for your buck from this Crozes Hermitage.  A wonderful wine that you must add to your collection.
